Discussing art with engraving artist Junji Morimoto

A metalwork artist, named Morimoto, learned about Shiozawa when he attended one of our recent events, and felt an immediate sense of affinity with his work. So, on April 16th, he visited our studio. When we learned that Morimoto’s family residence and studio is just a 10 minute walk from ours, it felt like the gods had brought us together through fate.

Morimoto was raised in a family that has been involved in Kimono dyeing in Kyoto for generations, and is currently an artist who uses metal engraving techniques to design and create a wide range of items, including jewelry, objects, and interior design.

Mr. Morimoto brought along his masterpiece, “Phoenix”. It’s form is so gentle that it both inspires and soothes the soul at the same time.

The two artists found that they had a lot in common in terms of their source of inspiration and strong connection to the universe. Much like Shiozawa, Morimoto has also experienced mysterious events such as UFO sightings, on more than one occasion. Knowing Shiozawa’s experiences, and listening to Morimoto’s stories, it was easy to imagine just how real they were.

Shiozawa showed Morimoto the rough sketch for “Golden and Silver Dragon”, a piece he is currently working on for the humble ceremony at the Showa Shrine’s worship hall on July 7. He also mentioned that he had an idea to use the design for accessories in the future. Coincidentally, July 7th is Morimoto’s birthday.

We are looking forward to working with him in the near future.
