This year, for the first time in a year, a memorial service for Nichiren’s birth will be held at Hongyoji Temple, and two works will be unveiled at the same time.

The white lotus folding screen, when illuminated with black light, reveals the secret story of Nichiren’s birth in vibrant color.

You can also see Nichiren, who exists simultaneously at his birth and in Nirvana. In his own unique expression of Buddhist painting, Shiozawa has depicted the people praying in the picture as those of modern times.

This work is a three-sided folding screen that when first observed, features the word ‘Na Mu’ on the front door. When the door is opened the words ‘Ho Ren Ge Kyo’ are revealed, written on white lotus petals.

By seeing these two visuals with your own eyes once a year, you can feel closer to Nichiren.
