Nishijin Art Weaving Exhibition: Kameoka Special Exhibition

About a 15-minute walk from Kameoka Station is “Galleria Kameoka,” a roadside station that houses a large facility where a variety of cultural classes and other events are held.

From February 27 to March 3, the Nishijin Art Weaving Exhibition was held there as a special exhibition.

When people think of Tamba-Kameoka, they often think of Akechi Mitsuhide’s Kameyama Castle. A large statue of Mitsuhide stood in the gallery’s hallway, and just inside the glass doors directly in front of it, the original painting of “Nobunaga’s Blue Fudo” was on display.

The sales flyer for Nishijin Art Weaves also features Oda Nobunaga as its central motif. It seems as though Nobunaga is shouting, “Revive Japan’s strength! Revive Nishijin’s strength!”

We visited the exhibition hall on February 28th.

The compact exhibition space has been put to good use, with a lineup of Shiozawa’s works, created by Nishijin Bijutsu-ori, is on display.

Although not in large numbers, the exhibition hall frequently welcomes visitors with children and older adults, who eagerly view the works on display.

People are deeply interested in the themes depicted, and they listen intently when staff of exhibition explain them, which makes us happy.

Although Shiozawa is still a relatively unknown artist, it is clear that his work is gradually gaining recognition thanks to the superb craftsmanship of Nishijin-ori.

I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at the Nishijin Art Museum and to our visitors.
