Visit to the Kansetsu Hashimoto Museum of Art Gallery

On May 21st, We were invited to the Hashimoto Kansetsu Museum of Art to attend a solo exhibition by Chinese ceramic artist Dong Quanbin.

Kansetsu Hashimoto was a Japanese painter who was a central figure in the art world from the Taisho to Showa periods. His home in Kyoto is now a museum, a traditional Japanese restaurant, and more, where you can see beautiful gardens and Japanese architecture.

We walked through the beautiful garden, covered in the lush greenery of May again that day, and arrived at the exhibition venue.

Jingdezhen refers to the renowned ceramics crafted in the kilns of Jingdezhen, long celebrated for their exceptional quality and favored by successive Chinese emperors.

This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to admire the exquisite and refined works of master ceramicist Dong Quanbin, an artist who produces only 40 pieces each year, each one a testament to his unique vision and craftsmanship.

Each piece is unique and individually crafted, and when light is shone on them the ceramics are thin and translucent, making them beautiful. Chen Xiao, who organized the exhibition, explained that Chen is an exceptional artist who will never be able to create the same piece twice.
