Kumano trip Part3 From Tennyoza to Hayatama shrine

On June 3rd, we visited Kumano Tennyo-za in Hadasu-cho, Kumano City early in the morning. There is a guesthouse that overlooks the sea where two musicians run a cafe, performance hall, and a guesthouse.

Pianist Shiho Yabuki played an improvisation from the cover of the picture bookPrincess of the Sea God” that Shiozawa had given her. Her husband, Mr.Yanaka, performed a wonderful high-pitched scat singing technique that is said to have a flute-like voice.

We were surprised to find such an accomplished artist tucked away in a remote place like this.

After that, we hurried to visit Hayatama Shrine, one of the Kumano Sanzan shrines in Kumano Shingu. It is a beautiful shrine with a vermilion-painted main building.

For lunch, we enjoyed a fantastic tuna set meal at Restaurant Takehara in Kii Katsuura.
